A port in Tondo, Manila faced significant challenges including oil contamination, delays in equipment servicing, lubricant shortages, and high maintenance costs. The plant's machinery required weekly manual lubrication, necessitating operational stoppages. Mishandling of lubricants led to unplanned downtime, increased maintenance expenses, and health and safety risks.
Le Price International Corporation (LPI) intervened by installing Lube Storage and Oil Stations for onsite service vehicles, implementing double-walled tanks, dispensing pumps with inline oil filters, and dispensing hoses. LPI also introduced a proper tagging system for each lubricant to prevent mixing and contamination, ensuring the cleanliness of the lubricants. Extensive training and seminars were provided to personnel to ensure plant and machine readiness.
As a result, the plant reported saving up to 30% on oil consumption and 60% on maintenance costs, with proper monitoring of lubricant usage. There was also a notable increase in productivity following the installation of the Lube Storage solutions. Additionally, all health and safety risks were properly addressed through training that enhanced the operators' technical knowledge.
